Fighting Techniques : silat

Silat is a collective word for indigenous martial arts of the Malay Archipelago and Malay Peninsula of Southeast Asia. Originally developed in what are now Indonesia, peninsular Malaysia, southern Thailand and Singapore, it was also traditionally practiced in Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam. As a result, it is closely related to other Southeast Asian martial arts including krabi krabong and eskrima. Practitioners are called pesilat. The Chinese fusion of silat is known as kuntao.

tips: a proper fist

In the movie Batman Forever, the character Two Faced explains the procedure to the Riddler on making a fist to throw a punch. Although this was a humorous scene in the movie, the sad fact is that many people actually believe by balling up your hand and swinging, you have made an effective and proper fist.

Many sprained and broken hands or wrists have been caused by trying to use an improperly made fist.
These injuries may be caused from improper wrist control, finger and/or thumb placement, as well as which knuckles of the hand hit first.
